Trying to start a womens clothing boutique in St. Louis and I need some help?

I have my sights set on what i feel to be a pretty profitable location
I have a list of designers that i would love to carry for clothing, accessories, shoes tec.
I have the interior colors, schemes, and themes mapped out
But I’m broke and I don’t have the best credit
and I also want to offer services such as personal styling, personal shopping)
What is the next step that I should take??

Hi there! Try to get the landlord of the space to give you a few months’ free rent so you have time to get open before a rent payment is due. Also try to get him to pitch in for some tenant improvements – new paint, etc.

To start stocking your store, shop around the racks at Macy’s, etc for some bargains, to get your store looking “full” for when you open the doors. Consider consignments or other designer trade-ins.

Try to find used racks from stores that have gone out of business. you’ll also want a merchant account – try merchantwarehouse.com to process credit cards.

you may need to start with some smaller-scale & lesser known designers who are willing to “consign” you their merchandise until you have the cash flow to stock the brands you really want. You can also look for brands that will let you buy on a 30 day credit.

I have had luck with visiting local salons and boutiques and passing out my brochures there, with discounts to their clients if they come in and make a purchase with me.

Like you, I started with less than $3000 and unable to get a business loan – but I made it work!!

Good luck!!
