What do you think of women with big muscled calves? Best shoes to wear?

I have been dancing (ballet, jazz) for years, and it has really shaped my legs. I am long-legged and hyperextended, and from behind, my calves are quite big and muscular, but not the bicyclist’s type that’s totally out of proportion. My boyfriend says that (from behind) it creates an illusion of making me look shorter. What is the best shoes for these kinds of calves to make them look more slender-looking? Should I really refrain from wearing wedges?
